Tuesday 21st March 2017
In the first of our Surrey Breakfast Employment Updates in 2017, we’re teaming up with Alexander Lloyd again. This time we’ll be focussing on mental health in the workplace.
Mental health was very much a hidden condition, with few people admitting that they suffer from it and resources for treating it being limited. Over the last few years, not only has discussion been far more open, but the Government has brought mental health towards the top of its agenda within its “Improving Lives” Green Paper aiming to put mental and physical health on an equal footing. The Prime Minister also recently announced a review into managing mental health issues in the workplace.
This will be followed by a short presentation by Wendy Ladd, an occupational health practitioner on how she approaches mental health when compiling medical reports. Wendy is an experienced, qualified Specialist Nurse Practitioner in Occupational Health. With over 25 years experience in various industries and settings, Wendy has encountered most scenarios. Her main focus is on management referrals; she is particularly interested in work place ‘stress’, communication and mental health in the workplace. To assist with this, Wendy has undertaken further training; she is a Master Practitioner in NLP (Neuro linguistic programming), a qualified workplace mediator and coach. Wendy is also very involved in auditing OH services and is deputy head assessor for SEQOHS, a voluntary accreditation scheme for occupational health services in the UK and beyond.
We’ll then finish off with a case study, drawing all the strands together.
Andrew is Partner and Head of Employment. The Chambers and Partners legal directory 2016 said that clients say: “He is able to grasp your situation and get to the nub of the problem quickly”. For 2017, the same directory praised him as a lawyer who is “very responsive, creative and practical in his approach”.
Sofia is an experienced employment lawyer with a commercial background, She is a recommended lawyer in The Legal 500 UK 2015. Her clients say she is “really easy to work with and an extremely clear communicator... I know I can trust her advice as a commercially aware lawyer but I also believe she is a talented legal/HR trainer.“
